IN recognition of his heroism, the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod is set to pass a resolution on Tuesday adopting Mart Stephen Navarro, an ROTC cadet at Lyceum Northwestern University, as “adopted son of Dagupan” and be rewarded with a scholarship for saving the life of a senior high school student who attempted suicide.

Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo said he will file the resolution and expects unanimous approval to recognize the heroism of Navarro saving the life of a female senior high school student who tried to kill herself by jumping from the fifth floor of their school on November 10.

Navarro, an LNU student taking up Bachelor of Science in Criminology residing in Calasaio, saved the girl’s life by catching her in his arms before she could hit the pavement.

The girl suffered injuries in her head and body but was declared out of danger while Navarro suffered a dislocated knee. Both are recuperating at the hospital.

Navarro was then at the school campus for military training when she saw the girl about to jump from the fifth floor of the school building.

Navarro, who lives with his widowed mother Soledad, a plain housewife, is active in youth ministry as an altar boy of the Church Our Lady of Fatima in Barangay Dinaloaoan, Calasiao.

Tamayo said he will also ask the SP that the university’s ROTC unit be cited for quickly coming to the aid of Navarro and the rescued girl and went to ask the city health office to conduct symposia on depression and suicide in all educational institutions in the city. (Leonardo Micua)
