TWO months after former congressman Amado Espino Jr was ambushed in San Carlos City, the filing of a case remains pending with the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

This was confirmed by P/Brig. Gen. Joel Orduña, Region 1 police director, who said his office has provided the prosecutor the basic elements of the case “but we haven’t charged the mastermind.”

The Philippine National Police (PNP) filed two counts of murder and four counts of frustrated murder against 22 suspects at the City Prosecutor’s Office in San Carlos City on Oct. 1.

Tagged in the ambush were Albert Palisoc, alias “Alvin Pascaran/Mark Anthony Palisoc;” Armando Frias, alias “Jong;” Benjie Resultan; Joey Ferrer; Ronnie de los Santos; Gerry Pascua alias “Kagawad Guapo;” Sherwin Diaz; Teofilo Ferrer, alias “Pong;” a certain Russel, alias “Sel;” Jewel Castro; John Paul Regalado; Alfred Pascaran; and 10 other ‘John Does’ as masterminds, financiers, conspirators and accessories to the murder case.

He expressed hopes the prosecution can file the case soon “so that we can do what’s next” adding they are still doing their best to gather more evidence and more witnesses, too.

Espino was wounded, together with P/Staff Sergeant Jayson Malsi and Kervin Marpuri on Sept. 11 in the ambush in Barangay Magtaking in San Carlos City.

Agapito Cuison and P/Staff Sgt. Richard Esguerra, driver and police security aide respectively of Espino, died.

A Regional Special Investigation Task Group on the case is headed by P/Col. Ysmael Yu and P/Col Redercio Maranan, Pangasinan provincial director. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
