WITH the onset of the holiday season, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is reminding the public to be careful when buying toys as gifts, especially through online shopping.

EcoWaste coalition, an advocate for zero waste and toxics-free society, also raised alert over some toys being sold in stores and tiangges.

Zaldy Zafra of CTI’s Consumer Protection Division, said that some items offered for sale may pose chemical and injury risks, especially for young children.

For the public’s protection, R.A. 10620 (An Act Providing For Toy And Game Safety Labeling, Appropriating Funds Therefor), prohibits selling of toys with no proper label. “Don’t buy products without labels because these serve as their protection because labels have appropriate warnings,” he said.  (Ahikam Pasion)
