4th Gov’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball reels off
THIRTY basketball teams are vying for top honors for their respective towns and cities in the fourth season of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament that started on November 16.
Provincial Sports Development Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Director Modesto M. Operania said the province’s biggest basketball cagefest, a major sports activity of Gov. Amado Espino III, will see 14 cagers, ages 18-25 years old of each participating town and city in the province.
Participating teams are: Alaminos City, Anda, Basista, Binmaley, Bugallon, Calasiao Labrador, Lingayen, Mabini and Sual (Western Conference); Bautista, Bayambang, Laoac, Malasiqui, Manaoag, Mangaldan, Mapandan, San Carlos City; Sta. Barbara and Urdaneta City (Central Conference); and Alcala, Asingan, Balungao, Natividad, San Nicolas, San Quintin, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Tayug and Umingan (Eastern Conference).
To ensure quality and integrity of the tournament, the provincial government conducted a two-day basketball coaches’ clinic November 9 to 10 for more than 200 coaches.
Operania said the clinic sought to improve coaching strategies and in managing basketball teams. (PIO/SMDG)
