THE Indigenous Peoples community in Pangasinan joins the nation in celebration of the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Month and the 22nd anniversary of the IP Rights Act this October.

Dr. Enrique Delos Santos, NCIP provincial chief, said this year’s observance focuses on empowering the IPs through a whole-of-nation approach and cited DepEd’s development of IPEd or IP education curriculum and DOH’s medical assistance to IPs in remote villages.

Sison and San Nicolas towns have the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) in the Sangguniang Bayan.

Delos Santos said there are more than a hundred tribes of IPs in the province including Ibalois, Bago and Kankanaey, among others.

An IP Day will be celebrated in the towns of Sison, Umingan and San Nicolas from October 25-28 and a Regional IP Summit will take place in Ilocos Sur on October 31. (PIA Pangasinan)
