PIGLETS, BREEDERS TO BE ALLOWED

A proposed amendment to the executive order directing a temporary total ban on all swines from outside the province entering the province was submitted by the Office of the Provincial Veterinary and Provincial Legal Office to Gov. Amado Espino III.

According to Dr. Jovito Tabajeros, assistant provincial veterinarian, the proposal is to allow piglets and breeders to enter the province provided that swine and  piggery owners apply for a permit to bring pigs to the other provinces.

The proposed procedure is for the technological people of OPVet to subject the piglets and breeders to close examination to determine their condition, rules of clean piggery are adhered to, and free of any disease.

OPVet can only issue the shipping permit and veterinary health certificates once the process is completed.

To date, 50 trucks loaded with almost 500 swine and have been allowed to pass through to deliver their cargo to Benguet.

The Pangasinan police continue to monitor the entry and exit points to ensure that no pigs affected by the ASF are able to enter.

Meanwhile, the pork supply in the market remains steady and the price remains at P200 per kilo.. According OPVet, piggery owners are set to reduce if the slump in demand continues. (Nora Dominguez)
