COMMERCIAL rice prices in the Pangasinan have dropped to P29 to P30 per kilo while NFA rice is being sold at P27.

According to monitoring reports of NFA Western Pangasinan, the rice supply in Pangasinan is abundant as expected because the rice producing towns in the province have not been affected by any typhoon.

Chona Maramba, NFA Western Pangasinan assistant manager, said there are still 123,000 bags of NFA rice stored in the agency’s warehouses in Lingayen, Alaminos and Mangatarem.

NFA rice is now for sale at P27 per kilogram or P1,250 per bag and unlike last year when sale to consumer was limited to five kilos of NFA rice.

The NFA has resumed buying farmers’ palay for P19 per kilogram of class A and P18 per kilogram of class B fresh rice, higher than what usual rice traders are offering today.

Private palay traders buying palay for only P15 to P17.

The NFA has also eliminated many requirements from local farmers to sell to NFA from the first 200 sacks of their rice crop.

NFA Western Pangasinan aims to buy 125,000 bags of new farmers’ rice paddies to fill the NFA’s buffer stock market for the coming lean months.

From the beginning of the farmers’ rice harvest here in September to October, the NFA already brought 45,780 rice paddies.

NFA Western Pangasinan will continue to buy farmers’ produce here as long as farmers can sell rice here.

The high-yielding rice fields are in Mangatarem, Alaminos, San Carlos, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara and Lingayen. (Nora Dominguez)
