LTO: New licensing system in 2020

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a new set of rules in the issuance of driver’s licenses, student permits and renewal of licenses effective January 2020.

Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, LTO- Region 1 Director, said details of new rules will be circulated in November:

  1. Applicants for student permits will be mandated to attend 15 hours of seminar. An examination will then follow.
  2. Applicants for driver’s licenses, undergo a mandatory eight-hour application, then take another examination.
  3. Renewal of driver’s licenses will require to attendance of eight hours seminar and actual driving.
  4. Biometrics will be used to ensure the applicants’ attendance, and therefore, be eligible to take the examination.

Meanwhile, the LTO will extend the validity of driver’s licenses up to ten years provided driver has not committed any violation within the preceding validity. Driver’ licenses can only be renewed for 5 years if violations have been noted. (Ahikam Pasion)
