Fire razes 17 dry-goods stalls in Dagupan

SEVENTEEN dry-goods stalls on Nueva St. Barangay 2 and 3 were razed to the ground Thursday afternoon.

Fire officer IV Marcelo Meneses Jr., fire chief of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Dagupan, said the fire started in the stall owned by Mary Nardo.

Investigation showed Nardo was awaken by shouts from neighboring stall owners. She saw her stall’s circuit breaker was on fire. FOI Andrew Pasana, fire arson investigator.

The fire easily spread to other stalls because of light materials, while other stalls sell plastic products, clothes, and other flammable products. He said the stalls were mostly dry-good stalls, RTW (read to wear) stores and some gadget stores.

Pasana said BFP provincial office had to ask assistance from BFP Calasiao, Mangaldan and Binmaley, Panda Fire Brigade Volunteers, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the CSI Fire Fighters.

He advised the households and stores to check on their electrical wirings regularly and to replace damaged or old wirings. (Helen Martin)
