CLEANSING PROGRAM

LINGAYEN — The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) suspended three more policemen for 30 days due to misconduct.

P/Col. Redrico Maranan, PNP provincial director, said the suspension of the three unnamed policemen is part of the continuing internal cleansing in their organization.

He said since he assumed his post on May 28 until Oct. 20 this year, 61 administrative cases have been filed against policemen.

“Of the 61 administrative cases, 12 are against officers while 49 are non-com officers,” Maranan said in a phone interview Tuesday.  Nine non-com police officers in the province were also charged with criminal cases.

“Admin cases are usually, neglect of duties and misconduct, while criminal cases range from illegal discharge of firearm, murder or homicide,” Maranan said.

Meanwhile, 16 personnel are also undergoing pre-charge investigation, two are officers while 14 are non-com officers.

“Pre-charge investigation is to determine the sufficiency of evidence against the allegations against them and 20 personnel are undergoing summary hearings because there are sufficient evidence established to set the case for hearing. Of the number, four are officers while 16 are non-com officers,” he said.

Maranan said while he does not tolerate errant policemen, due process is observed when acting against them.

“I am a disciplinarian. If a policeman violated a law, we will act on it quickly. In fact, Pangasinan policemen regularly undergo random drug testing, especially those who are handling anti-drug operations and so far, no one tested positive of illegal drugs,” he said. (Helen Martin)
