P300-M worth of counterfeit stamps, printing machines seized

TWO Chinese nationals and five others were arrested after authorities raided a carton factory in Villasis town for allegedly printing counterfeit BIR stamps and cigarette labels.

The joint raiding team composed of Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Villasis government raided the Three W Carton Trading Corporation in Barangay Bacag.

The authorities recovered  counterfeit cigarette labels, fake stamps, boxes and new printing and packing machines owned by an Alan Apaga of Brgy. Bacag Villasis.

P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, provincial director of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, identified the arrested suspects caught operating the machines as Liang Jun Cheng, Cia Xiao Ming, both Chinese nationals and five workers: Edwin Cagaanan y Palconite, Bernard Dagpin y Gandamon, Juancho Rey Albestor y Poral, Gino Amparo y Lopez , and Benjie Terez y Avansinya.

Among the confiscated items were two press machines, a gliding and cutting machine, a stamping and module cutting machine, die cutting machine, main control, speed master machine, transformer, voltage regulator, 1 plate making machine, nine different machines, BIR strip stamps used in packaging of boxes of cigarettes worth more or less P300 million.

Ronel Victor Ruiz, of the BIR Excise Tax Division said the suspects will be charged with violation of Intellectual Property Rights Law and Republic Act 8284 or Train Law.

He said all the equipment recovered appeared new.  (Nora Dominguez)
