STA. BARBARA – The statement “Caring for the children is caring for the future” was what led a volunteer group here to launch the program Feed and Read to Lead, an advocacy that stresses leadership through reading and proper nutrition.

Started in 2015 by the then chief of police, P/Colonel Eric Noble, continued by P/Lieutenant Karol Elizabeth Santiago and her father, Pastor Rolando E. Santiago, president of Eagles Nest Christian Academy, continues to reach out to children not only in their municipality, but throughout the province.

The program has since expanded in helping kids from different barangays every week in coordination with Bless our Cops Youth through Gelene C. Aquino, Eagles Nest Christian Academy Administrator, and teachers in values education and reading tutorials.

In some areas, volunteers and donors provide crayons, pencils, notebooks, slippers, and other materials for children’s use in schools.

Volunteers like the Balolong family that makes delicious and healthy meals for child beneficiaries in Barangay Ventinilla and Banzal Elementary School.

The Barberan family in Barangay Maronong is helping kids in Barangay Malanay.

Aquino said they are hoping more good Samaritans will join them in their mission.

“Hopefully, more donors and volunteers will join the program. We pray that the Feed and Read to Lead Program will bring more impact to the community being served and will encourage everyone to take part on the culture of sharing,” she said.
