In a statement posted on the Official Facebook Page of Pangasinan, the Espino family hailed the heroism of the driver, Agapito Cuison, who managed to continue driving the vehicle despite the bullet wounds he sustained from the ambush, and bring the former governor to a nearby hospital.

Cuison died the following day (September 12) due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Police Staff Sergeant Richard Esguerra, died on the spot aboard the back-up vehicle.
