DAGUPAN City is preparing plans to construct its own slaughterhouse, which the Lim administration believes will contribute to the city’s growing economy.

In his statement during the Department of Agriculture’s consultative meeting on swine disease emergency preparedness, Mayor Brian Lim revealed the city will be operating its own slaughterhouse in 2020.

Lim said he has requested Dr. Michael Maramba of the City Veterinary Office to search for a 3,000 square meter lot that could serve as the site for the planned slaughterhouse.

Yung ipapatayo natin na slaughterhouse ay may ‘AA’ classification”, said Maramba.

The city used to source out its meat from a private slaughterhouse in Barangy Tebeng that had ‘AA’ classification.

Presently, meat products in Dagupan are slaughtered in Mangaldan slaughterhouse. The slaughterhouse in Brgy. Tebeng has shut down.

He said the planned slaughterhouse will be equipped with modern and state of the art facilities. This will include a facility that can process meat products.

Mayor Lim said P30 million fund will be set aside for the construction of the slaughterhouse. (Ahikam Pasion/CIO)
