TO ENSURE BAN OF ENTRY OF HOGS

POZORRUBIO–Aside from manning a quarantine checkpoint at the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) exit in Barangay Bobonan here, the local police began monitoring operations of the town’s slaughterhouse and an existing hog farm in Barangay Bantugan last week.

The two tasks are in compliance with the memorandum issued by P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, to police stations where a slaughterhouse is located further to ensure that no swine from other provinces enter and the province remains ASF-free.

Gov. Amado Espino III earlier ordered a province-wide temporary total ban on all hogs to enter and pass through the province especially from provinces where the ASF was first detected.

P/Major Rommel Bagsic, chief of police of Pozorrubio, formed a team composed of the Municipal Agriculture Officer, chief of the Rural Health Unit, meat inspector, a private veterinarian and him in order to effectively conduct the inspection.

First inspected was the municipal slaughterhouse in Barangay Poblacion District 1 operated by the municipal government to check on the sanitation of the place and if hogs from other provinces were being slaughtered in the facility.

The municipal government of Pozorrubio headed by Mayor Emma Chan hired Dr. Ronald Tadena, a private veterinarian, to help implement the necessary bio-security in the slaughterhouse.

Also inspected by the team was the RD Farm in Barangay Bantugan owned by Roger Erpelo, that raises 200 pigs.

He said he does not raise pigs sourced from other provinces because of the risks involved. (Leonardo Micua)
