Campaign to raise breastfeeding awareness launched

BINMALEY – To encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies, a non-government organization recently launched “Hakab Na”, breastfeeding awareness campaign in the town.

Led by World Vision, rural health units and barangay health workers, the program aims to raise awareness on the benefits of breastfeeding both to the mother and the baby.

More than twenty lactating moms attended the event and were given kits they can use for the needs of the infant.

Among the benefits cited by “Hakab Na” are: 1)Protection against allergies and eczema 2) Prevents stomach upset, diarrhea, and constipation. 3) Reduces the risk of viruses, urinary tract infections, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroenteritis, ear infections, and respiratory infections an 4). Lessens the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

To 30-year-old Mary Grace Rosario, the activity was something worth attending. “I learned a lot and the kit given us will be very helpful,” she said. The town health workers and RHU here will continue to monitor and support the breastfeeding mothers. (Melody Valenton)
