Bugallon rips San Carlos in game one
3rd INTER-LGU UNITY GAMES 2019
THE Bugallon five proved its championship mettle anew by narrowly edging defending champion San Carlos City, 94-92, to win the first game of the best-of-three championship series held on August 30 at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center gym in Lingayen.
Inspired by the presence of their Mayor Mely I. Espino and Second District Congressman Jumel I. Espino, the well-oiled Bugallon boys started swift and furious with power forward Jestoni Asuncion pumping in 11 points to rout the San Carlenians, 25-10, in the first quarter.
The Bugallon quintet kept their
opponent at bay in the second period with forward Albert Prado dominating the
play chipping in 15 points alone, to lead the first half with a surmountable,
59-38, score.
San Carlos turned the tide in the third quarter and orchestrated a 27-12 blast led
by its forward-center Leo Gubatan and guard Reynato Dizon to the delight of the
San Carlenians
roaring fans that trimmed its deficit to six marks, 73-67.
San Carlos caught up the
leading Bugallon halfway in the fourth and final juncture to tie the score at
77-77, all, then seized led by two points, 79-77, halfway in the match. But
it eventually succumbed in the end with
Bugallon forward Gabriel who sealed the match with two consecutive successful
free throws, 5:63 seconds left.
“Hard work, patience, luck and most especially the blessing of the Lord gave us
the victory,” the elated Bugallon head coach McChris Mabazza said.
In the battle for third place, Bayambang took
the upper hand in the second and third quarters after a deadlock in the first,
16-16, 47-42, 71-66, but ran out of gas in the fourth and last period, to yield
to the determined Urbiztondo boys of Mayor Martin Raul Sison, 97-92. (JAG,
