LINGAYEN– It will still be the policy of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) not to receive gifts.

This was the reaction of P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, to questions of local media to President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that it is okay for policemen to receive gifts given voluntarily as token of appreciation.

In an interview, he said all policemen in the province will continue to adhere to the discipline and strict ethical standard instilled to them.

“Our policemen in the province do not request or even accept gifts. Kahit may nag-aalok ng regalo, hindi namin tatanggapin iyan”, he intoned.

Maranan said his command will strictly comply with R.A. 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, specifically Section 7 which states: ‘Public officials and employees shall not solicit or accept, directly or indirectly, any gift, gratuity, favor, entertainment, loan or anything of monetary value from any person in the course of their official duties or in connection with any operation being regulated by, or any transaction which may be affected by the functions of their office.’

Maranan said he will not tolerate any form of bribery – either direct or indirect, in their ranks.

He urged the public to complain policemen who bribe or ask for gifts, and he promised to deal with the erring policeman accordingly.

“We should serve as the role models for the people. I will not tolerate bribery”, said Maranan. (Ahikam Pasion)
