3RD INTER-LGU UNITY GAMES 2019 BASKETBALL FINALS

GROUP A defending champion San Carlos City and last year’s Group B first-runner up  Bugallon showed anew their championship form by winning their respective first game in their best-of-three championship series in the 3rd Pangasinan Inter-LGU Unity Games 2019 held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen last August 9.

Inspired by the presence of their town chief executive Mely Ignacio Espino, the rejuvenated Bugallon five did not give any reprieve over Group B defending titleholder Urbiztondo by controlling all the quarters, 19-14, 43-29, 55-45 and finally 81-67.

The San Carlos City quintet, meanwhile, surprisingly found themselves this year a new formidable foe by handily crushing the much-improved and surprised finalist Bayambang, 87-80.

San Carlos City trailed in the first quarter by one point, 22-21, barely  seized the second period by single point, 43-42 through the efforts of wily guards Jose Mari Estabillo, Reynato Dizon and center Leo Gubatan via a 15-2 run. After a close battle in the third, the boys of Mayor Julier Resuello used their championship form to finish their opponent by nine marks, 70-61.

Although no longer threatened in the fourth and final period, the gritty San Carleans never gave up the front and eventually won by seven points.

“It was a hard work and determination with some luck that we won the first game,” said San Carlos head coach Felicisimo Daroy. “We’ll try our best to defend our title,” he added.

According to the organizing Pangasinan Development and Management Council, the date and venue of the second game will be announced early this week. (JAG, Jr.}
