EXPANDED SECURITY PLAN

LINGAYEN—The security plan for Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Manaoag in reaction to the leaked alert memo of the military now covers all other churches, malls, vital installations and other converging points in Northern Luzon.

This was bared by P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, who said the new comprehensive security plan was laid down by the police in all towns and cities of Pangasinan, in coordination with the military.

Initially, the threat was seen to cover Catholic churches in Laoag and Vigan cities and the Minor Basilica in Manaoag, and Cagayan.

Maranan said they are not taking the leaked intel report for granted even in the absence of any validation, hence, all vital installations and possible sites likely to be targeted by the terrorists are being secured. i.e., San Roque Power Plant, the Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant,  power distribution facilities and communication facilities.

He thanked the Muslim community in Pangasinan for pledging full support to the police and military and condemning  acts of violence and terrorism by extremist groups during a peace assembly in Manaoag  last week.

Earlier, the police held meetings with Muslim leaders in every town and solicited their support in identifying and reporting presence of strangers in their communities, especially if they are acting suspiciously.

Being monitored closely, too, are movements of foreign students in the province.

At the same time, he called on residents to keep calm, refrain from spreading fake news  but remain alert and report whatever unusual occurrences in their communities to the police. (Leonardo Micua).
