DESPITE low number of dengue cases in Dagupan City, compared to other towns, five barangays in Dagupan City have been placed under dengue-watch owing to recorded high concentration of suspected dengue victims.

City Health Officer Dr. Ophelia Rivera identified the barangays as Bonuan Gueset, Caranglaan, Calmay, Binloc, and Pantal.

From January to August 2019, the CHO recorded 106 dengue cases in the city, a 75% decrease compared last 2018 with 424 cases.

“We have to continue reminding the residents to clean their surroundings, even if we already have zero dengue cases in the city,” said Rivera. “Cleaning the environment should be everyone’s responsibility,” she added.

Rivera instructed barangay health workers to continuously inspect different areas in their respective barangays, and identify possible breeding places of mosquitoes.

The CHO continuously visits schools and conducts fogging operations and urges households to observe the 4s Dengue Advisory – Search and Destroy, Self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Say yes to indiscriminate fogging only if there is an epidemic.

“Make it a habit to wear long sleeves and pants when going outside. Do not forget to apply mosquito repellent”, she added. (Ahikam Pasion)
