FIRST on the agenda of the new Lim administration is to address what it sees as the worsening garbage and waste disposal in the city.

This, according to Mayor Brian Lim, will be the focus of his discussion when he makes the rounds of all the barangays in the city for consultation. He announced his plans, during the first meeting of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

However, he said to expedite the consultation process, the city’s 31 barangays will be divided into to six clusters.

“Next 2 to 3 months, we will make a schedule with barangay officials, and we will tour and observe each barangay. No exemption”, said Lim.

During his barangay visits, Lim said the status of each material recovery facilities (MRF) in the barangay will be evaluated for their effectiveness.

“Truth be told, garbage are only stockpiled at hindi nama-maximize yung MRF. How can  we minimize yung darating na basura kung hindi nase-segregate?”, he added.

He said mini-dumpsites will be shut down as well.

Lim hopes to receive recommendations and solutions to problems in their respective communities through the scheduled series of consultations.

Ano ba ang project that will respond to the needs of the people? Yun lang criteria ko. What will benefit the greater good”, said Lim. “But it will not come from me, it needs to come from everyone, especially the people, he added.

However, in order for this to be possible, Lim urged barangay officials to drop their political affiliations, and stop blaming, for the greater good.

“But let us not blame the past” he said. “Last 19 years problema natin ang basura. Madaling manisi, pero kung hindi tayo gagawa ng aksyon, walang mangyayari, kaya dapat magkaisa tayo,” he intoned.

Meanwhile, the city clarified that there is still no agreement on the use of the Urdaneta City landfill in order to reduce the volume of wastes being brought to the Bonuan dump site.

“Dapat pag-aralan lahat ng options natin”, Lim said. (Ahikam Pasion)
