Manhunt for killer of Bantay Kalikasan volunteer on

THE still unidentified killer of a volunteer of the Lingayen Bantay Kalikasan, a non-government organization is now the subject of a provincewide police manhunt.

Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil ordered a thorough investigation by the police that will lead to the identification of the suspect and hold the perpetrator responsible for the killing of Ysmael Sayson, 61, a retired bank employee, on July 17. 

Lingayen Police identified the victim and a member of Lingayen Bantay Kalikasan who was shot at his home in Poblacion in the said town.

According to P/Lt. Col. Gaston Cafongtan, Lingayen chief of police, it was raining around 7:45 in the morning when the lone suspect wearing a black jacket, a cap and sunglasses, parked his scooter in front of the victim’s house and called out the victim.

Soon as Sayson came out of his house, the suspect shot him several times in the head and body and fled.

Sayson was rushed to Jesus Nazarene Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Cafongtan said, manhunt operation against the suspect has been laid out and a case build up was undertaken to identify the suspect. Initial investigation showed personal revenge as the possible motive. (Nora Dominguez)
