Take a bow, UNLISERBISYO!

AS Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez exits after six glorious years of public service, Dagupeños take cognizance of the new meaning of public service in this day and age that she and her team laboriously defined on every turn.

There was endless flurry of activities and events promoting welfare of the young and old, building infrastructures for the future and setting new parameters for improved economy in reinforcing a vision for a city that refuses to sink.

Worthy of note was how her administration countered the series of roadblocks set up in social media by her political detractors with more projects to effectively stump the lies about her administration.

The accomplishments over a mere six-year period are certainly unequalled even by combined performances of past administrations. Without a doubt, these will pose a tough challenge to succeeding administrations to surpass by them. Nonetheless, these will provide the impetus for next administrations to build on for equally significant results.

To Mayor Belen and her team, led by City Administrator Atty. Farah Decano, and the career department heads, accept a grateful city’s cheers and congratulations for a job well done!!

Your brand of public service – UNLISERBISYO  – is a tough act to follow!

Eddie Garcia, 90

IT took the tragic death recently of legendary movie actor Eddie Garcia for us to revisit Republic Act No. 11058, or the occupation safety and health (OSH) law, which was passed only last August 2018.  It requires all industries, show biz included, to implement and apply safety measures in work places.  Garcia died after getting tripped by a network cable during a shoot of a television series by GMA.  Garcia broke his neck in the fall and died after being comatose for 12 days.  There was no standby ambulance, nor a medic, when the accident happened in Tondo, Manila.  Even as he was already 90, Garcia was physically fit and did not suffer from any ailment.

For 70 years from 1949-2019, he either acted or directed—or did both simultaneously—easily making him the longest-serving movie worker of all time.  He will be missed—even as his legend lives on.
