LINGAYEN–To better address the growing concerns of Persons with Disability (PWDs) throughout Pangasinan, the provincial government created the Disability Affairs Office (DAO) and placed it under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

Fifth District Board Member Ma. Gracia Rosario Perez Tababa told the Lingguhang Talakayan sa Kapitolyo at Urduja House, the new office will deal primarily on the needs and welfare of PWDs.

Two positions Disability Affairs Offices and his assistant, were initially created and are provided in the plantilla.

Board Member Tababa, who sponsored the measure creating the DAO said it will address needs and concerns of some 25,000 PWDs in Pangasinan.

She said since the PSWDO has a multi-task to attend particularly during times of disasters, Governor Amado Espino III and the past SP deemed it wise to create a particular office to address the concerns of PWDs.

Board Member Tababa is the new chair on Social Services and on Children, Women, and Family Welfare committees in the SP.

In the same forum, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Emil Samson said the creation of the DAO in his office is in accordance with Republic Act 10070 mandating all local government units to give special focus on the needs and welfare of PWDs.

He said the law specifies that the focal persons in the newly created office must be PWDs themselves or their sons and daughters are PWDs.

Meanwhile, Tababa was elected for the third time to the board of directors of the National Women in Action, a non-government organization advocating for women and family affairs.
