THE Dagupan Transport Terminal, touted as a world-class inter-modal terminal on a two and a half-hectare land along the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension in Barangay Lucao, started operations last Thursday.

It coincided with the simultaneous nationwide launch of the “One Direction Towards PUV Modernization” by the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board.

Alan German, executive director of SPD Development and Consulting, that owns and operates the facility, cut the ceremonial ribbon, along with Leland Lopez, legal counsel of the company, to mark the opening of the terminal.

German announced that LTFRB Regional Director Nasrudin Talipasan, who spoke during the opening program, also granted it a provisional authority to operate pending compliance of certain other requirements.

Also given provisional authority to operate are 10 of the 30 brand new air-condition taxi cabs that will operate from Dagupan to any point in Pangasinan, owned by the Bonuan Transport Organization. These will operate from the Dagupan Transport Terminal.

At the launching of the “One Direction Towards PUV Modernization” at Metro Plaza, Talipasan said the brand new air-condition taxi cabs are in accord with the PUV modernization set to be fully implemented by 2020.

Garman said the establishment of terminals decongest traffic besides providing commuters a safe, efficient inter-modal transport system.

Lopez said the terminal can accommodate and dispatch sixteen buses at a time.

The facility has separate terminals for mini-buses, jeepneys as well as PUV (Public Utility Van) Express and later, modern jeepneys and provided with wide and convenient passenger waiting areas, adequate comfort rooms, and shops as well as stores soon.

SPD, he said, was the same company that operated the terminal at the former Pantranco, now the location of SM Central Dagupan.

German said besides Dagupan being a key city for business, education, and economic growth, that their studies find Dagupan is leading in regional development being the hub of Region 1. (Leonardo Micua)
