Stores told: Don’t give candies as change

By June 2, 2019Business, News

IT is illegal for stores to give candies in lieu of giving customers their correct change for monies paid.

This was the warning issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Pangasinan to business establishments who do not comply with Republic Act 10909 or the No Shortchanging Act of 2016.

Republic Act 10909 prohibits business establishments from giving insufficient or no change to customers.

Natalia Dalaten, officer-in-charge provincial director of DTI-Pangasinan, said her agency continues to conduct free in-house seminars for store owners of big malls.

A seminar was conducted recently for mall managers.

Stores are required to have ready coins for exact change and to put up “Please demand for your exact change” sign in every counter to remind their cashiers and for the costumers to ensure the exact amount of change is received immediately after every transaction.  (PIA Pangilinan/AMB)
