Jail escapee shot dead
SUAL—An inmate at the Burgos District Jail who escaped was shot dead in an armed encounter at about 2:30 p.m. in Barangay Bay-bay on June 19 by pursuing personnel of the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology.
Killed by BJMP team led by SJO 1 Johnson Pre was Michael Mas, 29, of Barangay Bamban, Infanta.
Mas, who is facing a case for rape, escaped from BJMP district jail in Burgos at about 8:30 p.m. on June 16 and went into hiding in Barangay Bay-bay.
As the arresting
BJMP team approached the escapee’s hideout, he was spotted holding a hand
grenade and was about to pull its safety pin. But before he could do it,
Pre pulled out his service pistol and shot the escapee.
Mas was rushed to the Western Pangasinan District Hospital where he was
pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile relatives of Mas doubted the BJMP version and are seeking an
investigation. The hand grenade recovered from the dead escapee was
turned over to the police’s Explosive Ordinance Division.
In Sto. Tomas, a manhunt was launched to arrest a detainee who escaped from the police jail in the evening of June 18 who managed to open the padlock of the jail cell using a nail from a detached jail bed.
The detainee, Randy Valdez Bostejer, 29, of Dilan, Pozorrubio, was earlier arrested for theft and illegal possession of drugs. (Leonardo Micua)
