PSL women’s beach volleyball

LINGAYEN– Fourteen teams clashed last week for supremacy in the preliminaries for the Philippine Super Liga beach volleyball held the Capitol Beachfront.

In women’s category, Petron XCS ranked first in the team standing with 2-0 (win-loss) stats after the elimination rounds in Pool-A.

Petron XCS athletes Bernadette Pons and Floremel Rodriguez toppled Sta. Lucia – Woodside athletes Bianca Lizares and Jennifer Cosas via 21-19 and 24-22 in their two-set match on May 16 and earned their second win against United VC-B athletes Nieza Viray and Ella Viray, 21-16 and 21-12.

Sta. Lucia – Woodside and UVC – B followed Petron XCS in the team standing sharing the same 2-1 (win-loss) stats. PLDT Home Fbr athletes Gretchel Soltones and Shola Alvarez landed fourth with 2 losses.

Meanwhile, Sta. Lucia – Santorini topped the team standing in Pool-B with 2-0 (win-loss) stats.

Jackie Estoquia and Dhannylaine Demontaño of Sta. Lucia – Santorini served a good fight on their match against Petron Sprint 4T players Derie Rose Virtusio and Mary Rose Jauculan, 21-16 and 21-17 and against Cignal HD B athletes Mary Landicho and Mary Jolyn Ebro, 21-12 and 21-14.

Petron Sprint 4T team tied with Cignal HD B team with 2-1 (win-loss) stats followed by Generika Ayala – B with 2 losses.

In an interview, Pons and Rodriguez hailed the beauty of the Lingayen Beach and the Lingayen Baywalk.

Napakaganda, napakapino ng buhangin at napakalinis ng area,” Pons said noting that this served as her second time to visit Pangasinan after the Palarong Pambansa in 2012.

Commending the provincial government for bringing PSL beach volleyball challenge cup in Pangasinan, Pons thanked all concerned committees for making this activity possible.

As such, the duo exhorted all youths to never stop in honing their sports prowess.

Quarterfinals of the beach volleyball is until 6:00 p.m. today, May 17, while semifinals and finals are set on May 18 /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
