Local and national leaders lead Pista’y Dayat’s commemorative program

LINGAYEN – Governor Amado I. Espino, III led the commemorative program of the Pangasinan Pista’y Dayat 2019 on May 1 at the Capitol Beachfront.

Centered on the theme: “Malinis na Karagatan, Yaman ng Pangasinan,” the culminating activity of the sea festival was preceded by a thanksgiving mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Jerry M. Orbos followed by a commemorative program.

In his speech during the commemorative program, the provincial chief executive hailed all workers for their sacrifices.

As such, the governor expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries present in Pista’y Dayat celebration for extending their support in the vision of the provincial government: “To make Pangasinan the best place to invest, work, live and raise a family.”

Joining Governor Espino were: Senator Sonny Angara, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Senator Koko Pimentel, former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, former Secretary for Political Affairs Francis Tolentino, former PNP Director-General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Congressman Zajid Mangudadatu, Congressman Leopoldo N. Bataoil, Department of Tourism Regional Director Martin Valera, Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr., Bugallon Mayor Jumel Anthony Espino and First Lady Karina P. Espino.

An adopted son of Pangasinan, Bong Go pledged to promote the welfare of fishermen and the fishing industry in Pangasinan aside from reinforcing the campaign against illegal drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The former MMDA chairman commended the leadership of Governor Espino for standing as an advocate in enriching the coastal areas in Pangasinan.

Expressing admiration for the famous tourist spots in Pangasinan, Sen. Angara hailed Pangasinan for having accumulated over nine million tourists in 2018. As such, the senator vowed full support to the provincial government and Pangasinenses. He said that he is open to backstop the reopening of Lingayen Airport that will further boost the tourism industry of the province.

Tagging Governor Espino as “prize-catch,” Sen. Pimentel extolled all working committee of the Pista’y Dayat 2019 for bringing one of the merriest festivals in the country. This celebration, he added, contributes to conveying the essence of unity among the people of Pangasinan.

A kilometer-long table containing a bounty of seafoods delighted all beachgoers as the province brought anew Dulang Boodle-fight after the commemorative program, which also featured as dining tables winning entries of over 20 artists who participated in the boat painting contest.

The month-long sea festival celebration in the province also includes Pangasinan Night Job Market on May 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, which is pegged to assist jobseekers in the province.

Gathering Pangasinenses from all walks of life, the sea festival of Pangasinan has served as an avenue to celebrate not only the bounties of Pangasinan sea products, but also, an invitation to Pangasinenses across the country to revisit the acclaimed tourist spots in the province, particularly its pristine beaches.

The mother of all festivals in Pangasinan which coincides with the Labor Day is also a tribute to all hardworking workers in the province. /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
