LINGAYEN—The conduct of the elections in Pangasinan was generally peaceful with no election-related violent incident.

This was the assessment of the recently P/Col. Wilson Joseph Lopez, however, he pointed out that the election period is until June 12 and police operations will continue to ensure peace and order in the province.

He said a daily assessment of the situation will determine the decrease in the number of deployed policemen and thanked the officials and people for their cooperation.

He said more lawmen were sent to those under orange category or areas of immediate concern like Alaminos City, Sual, Urbiztondo and Sto. Tomas and those under yellow category or areas of concern like Bani, Rosales, Balungao, Umingan and Urdaneta City.

Meanwhile, P/Brig. General Joel Orduña, acting regional director of Police Regional Office 1, said the success of the mid-term national and local elections (MNLE) 2019 is a product of the “Whole–of-Government Approach” and the commitment of all government agencies and stakeholders towards an orderly and peaceful election.

Orduña said the peaceful conduct of the election can also be attributed to the series of contingency planning of all members of the Regional Joint Security Control Center, proper deployment of police personnel to the polling centers and quick reaction teams, intensified conduct of focused police operations and designation of red teams to oversee and supervise the implementation of the security plan in all political districts of the four provinces in the region.

A total of 7,167 PNP personnel and 919 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel were deployed to warehouses and hubs, Voting Centers and Election Monitoring Action Centers regionwide. Quick Reaction Teams and Reserved Forces were also on alert for immediate response in cases of election glitches.

The 2019 MNLE in the region has three validated ERIs in Region 1: two in the Province of La Union and one in Ilocos Norte, 155 were arrested for violation of liquor ban, 24 were accosted for alleged vote buying and selling and confiscation of cash amounting of P595, 300 allegedly used in vote buying.

“With these laudable accomplishments, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all PNP personnel who were deployed before, during and after 2019 Midterm National and Local Elections. Appropriate awards and commendations shall be given,” Orduña added. (PhilStar Wire Service)
