Capitol hosts 3rd Tigasin Triathlon

LINGAYEN — Close to 300 triathletes from all over the country were in Pangasinan May 4-5 for the 3rd Tigasinan Triathlon hosted organized by the provincial government.

The main triathlon event, preceded by the open water challenge, was held on May 4.

On May 5 triathlon fans witnessed intense sports action in the triathlon biking leg, and running leg along the town’s major thoroughfares. The swimming leg was held offshore near the Capitol beachfront.

Gov. Amado I. Espino III’s administration continued to support the Northern Cement Corporation-sponsored triathlon event, to showcase the tourism potentials of the province.

“Tigasin Triathlon not only featured the beauty of the province, but opened doors for locals to witness such sport,” event organizer Carlo Sampan of trisports solutions, Tigasin Triathlon managing partner, said. “We have actually seen the potential of local bikers to join multi-sports,” Sampan added.

Sampan was joined by Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Malu Elduayan and Special Events head Marife Acerit in the awarding and closing program held at the Provincial Training and Development Center on May 5.

The events in male and female divisions were relay sprint, relay standard, individual sprints categorized by age classification, and over-all ranking.

The open water challenge had 2k run challenge, 4k run challenge, and 5k run challenge the male and female divisions.
