SEVERAL tourist-oriented projects were lined up in the Fourth District of Pangasinan, some of which are now on-going while a few others have just undergone groundbreaking.

Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia revealed that the ongoing projects are the boardwalks in Tondaligan, Dagupan and Bolasi, San Fabian.

Construction of the boardwalks consisted of several phases. Phase I in Dagupan is already nearing completion while Phase II from Tondaligan to Bonuan Gueset is just awaiting the release of its budget incorporated in the 2019 General Appropriations Act.

In San Jacinto town, he said an eco park will be built near a scenic stream located in Barangay Sta. Cruz, where a private restaurant is already operating.

De Venecia said the road leading to the proposed eco park will be fixed initially as requested by the residents of Barangay Sta. Cruz.

In Mangaldan, De Venecia said the groundbreaking for the construction of an Olympic-size swimming pool at the Mangaldan National High School was recently held together with Mayor Bonafe Parayno.

The swimming pool, similar to the Dagupan Pool Site, will be used for swimming lessons of students and residents, as recreation area for local tourists as well.

De Venecia also vowed to help the Dagupan City government develop the Enarangan Lake, the smallest lake in the Philippines and the world, located in Barangay Malued, and development of the Pugaro Beach as another tourist destination in Dagupan, in addition to Tondaligan Park.

At the same time, De Venecia said he has already started exploring the possibility of a joint management agreement between the Philippine Tourism Authority and the San Fabian municipal government of the operations of the San Fabian Tourist Resort, with Pocholo Paragas, chief of the Tourism Infrastructure Economic Zone Authority (TIEZA).

The resort is presently being operated solely by the San Fabian municipal government after it was turned over by the PTA 15 years ago.

“We want to make the operations of the property not only viable but profitable,” De Venecia said.

De Venecia also announced that the funds for the repair and rehabilitation of the San Fabian, Mangaldan and the Manaoag Multi-Purpose Centers have already been released.  (Leonardo Micua)
