BUGALLON—The police here filed a case of homicide against the stepfather of a four-year old boy who reportedly beat the latter to death for refusing to sleep.

P/Major Jake Isidro, town police chief, said they have filed the case at the Prosecutor’s Office at the Regional Trial Court in Lingayen town against Jesse Garbo, 29, a resident of Barangay Cabayaoasan this town.

Garbo hit his stepson, Ervin Piyad, with a soft broom on his head, boxed and kicked him for refusing to sleep on April 11.

His mother gave him a sponge bath with warm water who kept crying.

Garbo later ordered Piyad to help put his two-year-old sibling to sleep since he did not want to sleep yet. Few minutes later, as Piyad was lying on the bed, his sibling tried to play with him but he was no longer moving or reacting.

Piyad’s parents noticed this prompting Garbo to rush him to Lingayen District Hospital where his attending doctor declared him already dead.

On learning of Piyad’s state, he hurriedly left the and went into hiding. He remains at large, Isidro said.

Meanwhile, Isidro is waiting for the issuance of Garbo’s arrest warrant so a manhunt operation can be launched.

Isidro clarified Garbo is not listed in the town’s drug watch list but he had a serious physical injury case last year that was amicable settled.

Piyad was his mother’s first child from her previous relationship. (PhilStar Wire Service)
