P’sinan hailed as GAD Local Learning Hub

LINGAYEN – The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) certified the province as Gender and Development (GAD) Local Learning Hub for the provincial government’s efforts in empowering women and programs promoting gender equality.

Gov. Amado Espino III received the award from PCW Commissioner Sandra Sanchez-Montano, expressing gratitude for the recognition of the efforts towards gender-responsiveness especially to women.

 “This is one of the things that we strive to achieve,” said Espino as he pledged full support to Provincial Social Welfare Development Office’s (PSWDO) sustainable projects that will benefit the women sector.

PCW Commissioner Montano said the award fully acknowledges the notable programs of the province for women and children and commended the provincial government for joining the crusade in promoting gender equality.

“It is safe to say that women in Pangasinan are safe,” Montano stressed noting that Pangasinan remains true to safeguarding the welfare of women and children not only during women’s month but all year long.

She said PCW is open to idea of conducting seminar-workshops on platforms of the PCW in partnership with the provincial government to further expand the gender and development approach in the province.

Pangasinan is one of seven LGUs in the country that received the PCW citation.

Pangasinan’s Crisis Intervention Center also received a citation for providing and sustaining gender-responsive programs and services to women and children in difficult circumstances.

“This affirms the responsiveness of Pangasinan Crisis Intervention Center to women and children in times of natural calamities and other emergencies,” Montano said. (PIO/SMDG)
