3rd GOVERNOR’S CUP/INTER TOWN, CITY BASKETBALL

LINGAYEN,– Teams Manaoag and Lingayen are the teams to beat in the semifinals of the 3rd Governor’s Cup Inter-Town City Basketball Tournament quarterfinals.

The two top-performing contingents, Manaoag and Lingayen in separate brackets (Group A and Group B) have so far posted a 5-0 win-loss and 6-0 win-loss record respectively.

The Manaoag-Mangatarem match, 101-97 proved to be another thriller for fans of both teams.

Manaoag found itself fighting for its hard earned victory every minute. It led only by a hairline in the first canto, 27-26, subsequently, setting the momentum with their point guard Kevin Samson acing lofty points of the team.

Mangatarem point guard Edwin Gonzales, Jr. was relentless in cutting down Manaoag’s lead by only two points in the first half, 50-48.

Efforts of Mark Christian Meneses, Manaoag’s king of dunk shots, however, were not enough to prevent a first deadlock 56-56, as Mangatarem powered up its game. Manaoag sniper Manny Santos unleashed back-to-back three-point shots to seal the third quarter with an eight-point lead, 81-73.

The never-surrender spirit of both teams came to the fore when Team Mangatarem managed to post multiple deadlocks against Manaoag. But the flame of victory sided with Team Manaoag, 101-97.

In the other match, defending champion Team Lingayen made sure that they will stay on top in their previous match against Team Mangaldan on March 9 via a lopsided game, 102-89. This paved the way for the dynamo team of Lingayen led by Marven Jophet Mamaril to clinch its  fifth win in the quarterfinals.
