3rd Umaani Expo opens March 11-16
LINGAYEN— The 3rd Pangasinan Umaani Expo opens on March 11 at the Provincial Agriculture Center in Tebag, Sta. Barbara.
The
five-day agricultural event will start with a Thanksgiving Mass and Opening
Program with Senator Aquilino Martin “KoKo” Pimentel as honored guest
speaker.
OIC-Provincial
Agriculturist Nestor Batalla expressed confidence that with the participation
of farmers, fisherfolks and key players of the agriculture sector in the
province, the 3rd expo will benefit both the farmers and the industry.
A project of Gov. Espino launched in 2017, the Umaani Expo is the converging
point of farmers, fisherfolks, and stakeholders of the agriculture sector in
the province for transfer of knowledge and farming system, and a show window of
latest farm machineries and equipment, and market promotion for farmers and
products.
Scheduled events are: Agew na Umaaniy Pagey (Rice Farmers’ Day) with former
Special Assistant to the President Bong Go as guest speaker; Agew na Umaanid
Tanaman (Corn and High Value Crops Farmers’ Day) with Gov. Espino as guest
speaker; Agew na Umaanin Bii (Women’s and Agribusiness Day), and Agew na
Umaaniy Sira (Fisherfolks’ Day) with Rep. Pia Cayetano as guest speaker; Agew
na Umaani Extension Officers (Agricultural Extension Workers’ Day), and Agew na
Manag-ayep (Livestock Raisers’ Day) with San Roque Power Corporation Vice
President Tommy Valdez as guest speaker; and Exhibitors an Sponsors Day.
Staring March 12,
the participants and visitors will be entertained by Sangka contests that .
(Sangka, in Pangasinan language, refers to superlative degree of comparison)
include: tastiest rice product contest; biggest, heaviest, and longest high
value crops; heaviest fish, and tastiest buro contest.
The Umaani Expo this year banners the theme: “Payabungin at Pangalagaan ang
