PARENTS have been warned about rising cases of measles and the dire consequences if they continue to refuse to have their children vaccinated.

Dr. Roland Joseph Mejia, hospital director of the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City warned parents as he expressed serious alarm over the decline of the number of babies being vaccinated all because their mothers refuse due to Dengvaxia scare.

He said the effect of Dengvaxia scare is widespread that it created fear among parents about similar consequences from all vaccines.

While he said he could not ascertain the exact figure of the decline in the number of vaccinated children, he maintains that there is an alarming increase in the number of measles cases.

“It’s high now and it is very alarming, “ he added.

Mejia said, “Measles is life-threatening especially if you’re a child… you can die of pneumonia.”

“Like Health Secretary Francisco Duque III. we are appealing to the people to please continue vaccination of children,” Mejia intoned.

“Vaccines are not bad because like the previous vaccines (given to babies/children), they need to be continued to protect them against getting sick,” he said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
