WILD CARD MATCH-UPS

LINGAYEN – The third season of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament continues to heat up with its Wild Card match-ups, series that started February 2-3.

Teams of Mangatarem, Asingan and Calasiao topped the ongoing wild cards as they shared the same win-loss stats (2-0) for each conference.

Calasiao wrapped up its claim after it waylaid last season’s second runner-up, Binmaley, hauling a victory, 76-72 on February 2. Calasiao also won against Sta. Barbara in a lopsided game, 84-72.

Mangatarem subdued Labrador in a stirring match, 103-96, on February 2 and sustained its supremacy the following day, February 3, after securing another victory against Bugallon (79-67) at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center Gymnasium.

Asingan cagers nailed two-straight wins against Villasis, 125-99, on February 2 and against Alcala, 110-102, on February 3.

Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council Asst. Executive Director Marlon Domalanta said wild card games are conducted to provide opportunities to other teams to land a spot in the quarterfinals.

Domalanta said each conference – Central, Western and Eastern – only top  four performing teams in the eliminations, will automatically advance to the quarterfinals.

And the winner in each conference in the wild card edition will join the rest on the top contingents in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, only three teams maintained their unblemished record (7-0) since elimination games started. Defending champion Lingayen is joined by last season’s first runner-up Manaoag and Urdaneta City in the list of undefeated teams.

The following are results of the elimination rounds, that concluded on January 27:
