BAYAMBANG—The first Honesty Store in a public school in this town was opened at Bayambang National High School on Feb. 12.

Dr. Joel Cayabyab, head of Bayambang Poverty Reduction Action Team (BPRAT) said the store will be the first-of a-series of Honesty Stores that will be set up in public schools in the town.

He said Honesty Stores aim to instill among the youth the culture of honesty, integrity and to fight corruption.

“At a very young age, we have to instill in them the culture of honesty which starts from themselves and in small things,” Cayabyab said, adding that this is consistent with the thrust of Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao to raise Bayambangueños who are truthful in their lives.

“Once honesty becomes their way of life, even if no one looks at them in their everyday dealings, they would constantly carry that value until they grow old,” he said

Sold at the Honesty Store are pencils, ball pens, cookies, chocolate bars, pad papers, Yakult drink, among others which bear corresponding prices each.

A section of a wooden frame where the goods are displayed is a note “Pay here. (Exact amount only)”.

School Principal Mary Ann Payumo also led teachers and school officials and students during the opening, together with Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Municipal Federation President Gabriel Fernandez, to support the project.

On the same day, BPRAT, joined by the SK and the local police, also brought its campaign on anti-bullying in the school and at the Bayambang Central School,. (PhilStar Wire Service)
