ALARMED by the report that more than 500 learners were bullied, resulting in at least two deaths in Pangasinan Schools Division II alone last year. the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) adopted a resolution urging the Department of Education (DepEd) to heighten
awareness and improve vigilance on the incidents of bullying in school campuses.

The resolution filed by Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario called for  stricter implementation of Republic Act No. 10627 and DepEd policies.

Rosario proposed measures to help enforce stricter anti-bullying policies through anti-bullying posters or slogans as he expressed support for the planned campaign of Division II superintendent, Dr. Donato Balderas Jr., to make students more aware of the law by organizing an activity in schools that will make understand and sign a pledge of commitment.

He stressed that preventing and eliminating bullying in school campuses is an important responsibility needing everyone’s involvement, especially the teachers tasked to act as
homeroom guidance counselors of students.

In passing the resolution, the SP aims to ensure that students are protected in an environment which is safe for them to learn and grow in, Rosario said. (Leonardo Micua)
