Prov’l try-outs for Batang Pinoy set Jan. 17-20

LINGAYEN– – The provincial government set the try-outs to fill the slots of Team Pangasinan seeing action in the Batang Pinoy, a major sports spectacle in the country,  among athletes aged 15 years old and below from January 17 to 20. 

This was agreed upon during a coordinating meeting on January 10 by officials of the Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) led by its Executive Director Modesto Operania.

Operania said the guidelines for the selection of the athletes with the concurrence of the trainers and coaches, most of them from the Department of Education (DepEd) schools divisions of Pangasinan I, Pangasinan II, Alaminos City, San Carlos City, and Urdaneta City were finalized.

Up for grabs are slots for 16 sporting events, which include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesports, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, indoor volleyball, and beach volleyball.

The Batang Pinoy selection process is being sponsored by the provincial government is fully-supported by DepEd, and National Sports Associations.

Team Pangasinan, formed under the administration of Governor Amado Espino III, is a perennial top contender in the Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg, and National Finals.

Team Pangasinan harvested 71 medals (24 gold, 23 silver, and 24 bronze medals) in the 2018 Batang Pinoy national finals and was ranked fifth among all the competing delegations. (PIO)
