Girl raped, killed in Laoac

LAOAC—The police have filed charges of rape with homicide at the Prosecutor’s Office against an identified suspect on Jan. 21 who was arrested over the rape-slay of a 10-year-old girl in Barangay Purok 1, Barangay Panaga this town.

A report from P/Sr. Superintendent Wilson Lopez, provincial police director, said that on Jan. 20, the body of Princess Joy Camat, Grade 3 pupil at Turko Elementary School, was found in a cornfield in the said barangay between 6:00 to 6:30 a.m.

During an investigation jointly conducted by the local police and Scene of the Crime Operatives, there were indications that she was a victim of rape as well.

The suspect, Raymond Serame, 41, also from the same place, was identified by the victim’s sister as the last person who accompanied Princess Joy.

PO3 Abegail Somiquiab of the Laoac police’s Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk, said the victim was discovered by a farmer who knew the family. The body was already in a rigor mortis state.

She was last seen alive on Jan. 19 between 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Somiquiab said.

The victim belonged to an indigent family and earned from neighbors by doing errands for them.

Somiquiab said the victim’s body bore strangulation marks on her neck and face and her head appeared to have been hit by a blunt object.

Police are still gathering information about possible involvement of other cohorts in the crime, she said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
