MANGALDAN—A policeman here was arrested for car theft Thursday morning in a joint police operation in Barangay Navaluan this town.

Counter Intelligence Task Force (CITF) and other elements of police units and Task Force Limbas of the Highway Patrol Group nabbed Senior Police Officer 3 Jonathan Sanchez who is presently assigned at the Mangaldan Municipal Police Station.

Sanchez was driving a white Toyota Hi-Ace van without conduction sticker and with an unauthorized plate number WHU-681 which turned out to be a stolen vehicle.

The operation stemmed from a complaint/report of a certain Rosa Pamor, a resident of Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, whose van was rented last September 8, 2018 for three days but the person who hired it failed to return the vehicle.

On December 18, 2018, the complainant received information that her van is in the custody of Mangaldan Police Station. However, upon her verification, the police station denied having custody of stolen van.

A background investigation conducted by CITF showed that elements of Mangaldan Police Station have arrested several theft suspects belonging to the Budol-budol gang members in September 2018 but did not include the recovery of the subject vehicle.

Since then, Sanchez had been using the vehicle in station’s police operations and for his personal use.

The arrested policeman and the recovered vehicle are now under the custody of CITF f for eventual filing for a violation of Republic Act 10883 (Anti-Carnapping Act) and administrative charges. (PhilStar Wire Service)
