Dagupan harvests major awards for good governance

 “WHICHEVER award we receive, kapag Dagupan City ang tinawag, lahat po tayong Dagupeños ang nabigyan ng award.”

This was stressed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as the various awards recently earned by the city were presented to department heads and government employees during the flag-raising ceremony at the city plaza on December 10.

Among the awards presented was the coveted Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities conferred by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Our children are the sole reason why we are blessed with this award. Just as this inspires me, may this award serve as inspiration for all of you that we should always prioritize our children. We will continue to innovate and to think of greater programs not for awards or recognition, but for the betterment of our children,” said MayorFernandez.

Another was the“Masidhing Paghanga” award given by the DILG to the city in recognition of the city’s effective and efficient delivery of basic services that contributed to the continuous development and successful implementation of the PerformanceChallenge Fund.

Also presented were the regional and provincial awards from the Department of Trade and Industry’s BestPerforming Shared Service Facilities (SSF) Project, for the city’s excellent management of the bangus processing facility that resulted in increased sales,generated jobs and provided assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs.

City Agriculturist EmmaMolina said the bangus processing facility was featured in the centerfold page of DTI’s first-ever ‘Unlad: Negosyo Para sa Progreso’ magazine.

The Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir, together with their conductor Virginia Llamas-Mendoza,presented the trophies they earned during the MBC National Choral Competition from December 4 to 8. It won as as semi-finalist, and the other as 2nd runner-up.

The Barangay Council of Malued was also cited 1st runner up and national finalist for the Urban Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (BDRRMC) category during the 20th National GAWAD KALASAG Awards.

In her message, MayorBelen Fernandez thanked all government employees for their hard work which contributed to the city’s stellar performance in different aspects of public service.

“We are grateful to have all of these awards. This is product of our collective efforts as mayor, city officials, department heads, government employees and our volunteers. Let’s all continue to work together for the success of our programs for our children and the city. Sabi nga natin ‘Unliserbisyo tungo po sa pag-asenso’.” added Fernandez. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
