Dagupan earns Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities

DAGUPAN City was picked as one of five towns/cities awardees of the 2017 PresidentialAward for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) at the Heroes Hallin Malacañang Palace on December 5, 2018.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the awarding ceremonies for PACFMC under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)– Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).

Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez wrote on her Facebook “Today, our city makes history once more as we have been adjudged as the country’s most child-friendly city under the Independent Component City category.”

She added that Dagupan’s recognition as this year’s most child-friendly city is made even more worthwhile after being hailed as three-time national finalist and four-time regional awardee.

“This award is a testament to our city government’s Unliserbisyo commitment in making sure our Dagupeño children remain the safest, healthiest and happiest in our city,” she said. “Today serves as proof of what we can all achieve if we work together. Truly, our city is continuously making history into building a legacy – a legacy that our children can genuinely be proud of,” she added.

The PACFMC is awarded to LGUs in recognition of their vital role in promoting children’s rights to survival, development, protection, and participation as well as ensuring child-friendly governance. Each awardee received P500,000 cash prize and a presidential trophy.

The 2017 PACFMC was also presented to the Municipality of Santa Fe in Nueva Vizcaya (Region III), the Municipality of Salay in Misamis Oriental (Region X), Tagaytay City  (CALABARZON), and Mandaluyong City (NCR).

The PACFMC is an annual undertaking of the CWC, in accordance to Executive Order No. 184 entitled “Establishing the Presidential Award for the Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities” issued on December 13, 1999.

In his address, President Duterte calledon all partners of the government to further strengthen their ties and buildnew alliances in order to create a safe, enabling, and child-friendlyenvironment for the succeeding generations of Filipinos.

“As our children are the country’s future, be assured that this administrationwill do everything to protect them from violence, abuse, criminality, illegaldrugs, and other threats to their safety and well-being,” Duterte said.

With the mayor to receive the award were Dagupan’s Liga ng Barangay Dean Bryan Kua and Marcelino Fernandez, DILG City Director Melinda Buada, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lorna Bugayong, City Social Welfare and Development Office Head Leah Aquino, City Health Officer Dr. Ophelia T. Rivera, City Planning and Development Office chief Engr. Josephine Corpuz, Barangay Captains Tess Coquia and Julita Perez of Caranglaan and Pantal respectively and members of Dagupan’s Council for the Protection of Children. (PhilStar Wire Service)
