BFP: Only one licensed firecracker factory in Dagupan
THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) revealed there is only one registered manufacturer of firecrackers and fireworks in Dagupan City.
SFO1 Rover Solar of BFP Dagupan said only the Siapno Firecracker Factory in Barangay Bacayao Norte was issued a license to manufacture firecrackers and fireworks in the city.
Siapno secured the license from the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame with a certification from BFP Dagupan that it complied with all the pre-requisites to be issued a license to manufacture firecrackers and fireworks.
Solar stressed that all vendors intending to sell firecrackers are required to have permits from the city government.
He told the radio program “Tatak UnliSerbisyo” at Aksyon Radio Dagupan that one of the pre-requisites for both a firecracker factory and vendors is to situate themselves at least 100 feet away from the nearest houses and within a clean environment.
He said both the PNP and the BFP are currently searching for illegal manufacturers of firecrackers and fireworks in the city.
Reports reaching The PUNCH indicate that illegal manufacturers of firecrackers are mostly operating inside their houses clandestinely.
Under Republic Act 9540, anyone found manufacturing firecrackers without a license faces penalty fine and imprisonment.
The city government has designated a spacious area under the New Pantal Bridge as a firecracker selling zone for firecracker vendors with permits.
BFP personnel will inspect all stalls selling firecrackers daily, Solar said, adding that teams will be on the lookout for illegally manufactured firecrackers that will be sold in secluded streets hours before December 31. (Leonardo Micua)
