Suspected gun-for-hire, gun-runner arrested in Bayambang

BAYAMBANG — A construction worker tagged as being involved in gun-for-hire, gun-running activities and in drug dealing was arrested in a raid by joint elements of the Bayambang Police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at his house in Barangay M.H. Del Pilar Street here in the early morning of November 14.

Lawmen served two search warrants to Bernardo de Vera, 38, one for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition) and another for violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Anti-Drug Law) when they raided the house of the suspect at about 6:30 a.m. that day.

Seized in that operation were one Cal 9 mm pistol, one Cal. 38 revolver Smith and Wesson without a serial number; one Cal. 22 revolver marked TELL, 14 bullets for Cal. 9mm pistol, four bullets for Cal. 38 revolver; and two magazines for Cal. 9mm pistol and one hand grenade, all owned by De Vera.

The police said the suspect had long been under surveillance on suspicion that he was engaged in gun-for-hire, gun running and in illegal drug activities in the 3rd  and 4th Districts of Pangasinan.

De Vera is included in the drug watch list of the police and was a former drug surrenderer in Bayambang.

The firearms and bullets seized from the suspect’s house were brought to the PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination and cross-matching.

Cases for violations of RA 10591 and RA 9516 were already fired against the suspects. (Leonardo Micua)
