ASINGAN—A detainee grabbed the service firearm of a policewoman who was busy giving ration for lunch to another inmate, and shot himself on the head with it inside his cell at the Asingan Police Station here.

Rodolfo Vibora Jr, 38, farmer, a native of Tacloban City and a resident of Barangay Bantog this town, snatched the Glock 17 9mm pistol of PO1 Jessa Mae Laganina while inside the cell giving his cellmate his ration for lunch.

P/Chief Inspector Ador Tayag, OIC at the police station, tried to convince  Vibora to surrender Laganina’s firearm but to no avail.

Vibora later shot himself on the right temple while P/Superintendent Virgilio Pascua Jr, deputy police director for administration was trying to talk him out of his plan to shoot himself.

P/Sr. Superintendent Wilson Lopez, police provincial director, surmised that Vibora might have been distraught after he was charged and detained for allegedly killing his brother-in-law.

Vibora and his wife were reportedly having marital problems.

“It was a good thing that he did not shoot his fellow detainees or the other policemen at the scene,” Lopez said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
