PRO1 seizes 43 loose firearms

OF the 341 estimated loose firearms in Region 1, 43 firearms that included eight high-powered and 35 low powered, have been seized so far by the police this month.

This was the result of 21 police operations and serving of 24 search warrants that led to the  arrest of 42 persons, according to Police Chief Superintendent Romulo E Sapitula, Police Regional Office 1 Director.

The operations were conducted in line with the implementation of PRO1’s LOI “Kontra Boga” implementation that aims to eliminate loose firearms in the region.

Implementation of LOI ‘ Kontra Boga’ is in compliance with the directive of Chief PNP Oscar Albayalde that seeks to account for all unregistered and unlicensed guns, and firearms with expired or unrenewed licenses. in the region in preparation for  the forthcoming election.

The  operations also aims to dismantle all Private Armed Groups (PAGs) operating in the region, Sapitula stressed.

Police operations against unregistered firearms involves dragnet operations in crime-prone areas, strict implementation of Oplan Bakal and Oplan Sita, conduct of mobile checkpoint and chokepoint operations, intelligence build-up, and application and service of
